What’s up with the USA?
They’re supposed to be all-knowing, all-powerful and omnipresent. They can sit in the UN and bully the world for approving an invasion against another nation that didn’t do anything to them. And when the whole world except a few countries denies them the support, they go in anyway. They send their young to be killed, they rape and destroy a country in the other end of the world, and then, they split the rebuilding contracts between the members of the cabinet.
But when they are hit by a gigantic natural disaster, with plenty of prior notice by the multi-mega-zillion network of ultra-sophisticated satellite and advance warning stations, with a criminal sluggishness they fail to send their brave and finest to aid their own citizens!
Many years of destroying the very nature of a modern State has left them all with no way of coping with a disaster such as this. I hope the governors of the Gulf States and the federal government did not wait and see, I prefer to think they knew how bad it would be, and were unable to do anything. They have no hospitals, fuel deposits, nothing. It’s all private.
But besides that reality, What’s wrong with USA CITIZENS?
What’s with this nation? even us Mexicans, while being known for every single bad kind of behavior you can think of, rush to the aid of our fellow countrymen when in need. Our government has a somewhat effective natural disaster plan that allows the President to use funds to send aid to a disaster-stricken region. Our local governments send trucks, heavy machinery, manpower. Our military rush our armed forces on live TV to help our own.
Why don’t they?
On every disaster more than a few funds are set up in HOURS on most banks, and PRIVATE CITIZENS send money to the Red Cross and other charities. When things hit close to home, all schools make rallies to gather food, water, clothing and pay for a truck to deliver them. Moms fire up their own social network and collect stuff from friends and family and deliver it to the other private citizens that are organizing logistics and distributing aid at the disaster site.
We have a somewhat sensible government when disaster strikes, but most of all, all of our nation, while extremely racist and very discriminating, knows the word SOLIDARITY and put it to good use. We network and help each other in a flash.
Why don’t they?
Why do they fire at rescuing helicopters?, but most disturbing of all WHY ARE THEY STILL AT TO ROOFTOPS AFTER A WEEK? why do they loot, but most important of all WHY THERE’S NOT A HUNDRED HELICOPTERS DROPPING SOLDIERS RATIONS ON THE STREETS??
WHY there has not been reports so far of huge caravans of help being sent from Arkansas, and Omaha, and California, and Texas? Why is the regular, next door neighbor doing so little for it’s fellow countrymen?
What’s wrong with that nation?
Why is the "opposing" party silent, why is the Congress silent, why there are no huge demonstrations in 5th Ave, right by the store where Condolezza Rice just got herself a pair of gorgeous shoes before attending a swell Broadway Opera? why the members of NGO’s are not kicking up a storm denouncing the uncomprehensible tardiness in dealing with this matter?
Are they all on TV crack or something?
